Just as the Mediterranean started the Renaissance around the various city-states of Italy, in the North of Europe Germanic city-states formed a different type of relationship centered around the Baltic Sea. The Hanseatic League was formed to promote and monopolize commerce in the Baltic Sea. The the era of cogs and caravels, unique northern European architecture, still seen in Europe, had evolved. Berger Zinngußmodelle has developed a series of 1:1250 scale ship and building models of this era.
